Give Me Five

An exciting highlight for this year has been the introduction of the ‘Give Me Five’ awards in Woorabinda as part of the Starting Block Program.

Launched in Term 1 this year, the 'Give Me Five' award identifies students with an attendance rate below 85%. These students then make a commitment to improve their attendance by five days the following term by entering into a 'contract' with their school and the Cathy Freeman Foundation. The program is showing some wonderful results with Give Me Five students improving their average attendance from 57.2% to 93.6% in Term 1.

Following the success of this pilot in Woorabinda, the project is also being rolled-out at St Michael’s Catholic School on Palm Island in Term 3.
