Today is a School Day

This year we are thrilled to launch an exciting new community engagement initiative, which aims to encourage students to attend school with a walk through their community on the first day of each semester, collecting students along the way.

The ‘Today is a School Day’ concept was inspired by Shepherdson College Principal, Simon “Spike” Cotton, who started this wonderful tradition in Galiwin’ku to celebrate the first day of the school term.

The first walk through community successfully kicked off the year in Wurrumiyanga and Galiwin'ku and will be rolled out to Palm Island and Woorabinda later in the year.

"It was very powerful to see all the students and their families walk together with the teachers through the community to school," said Evelyna, Programs Coordinator for the Cathy Freeman Foundation in Galiwin'ku.
